Effective Progress
Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right things.
When it comes to progress, there are two key factors at play: efficiency and effectiveness. While many people tend to focus on improving efficiency, it is effectiveness that drives true progress.
Efficiency is a measure of how well you can perform a task with the least amount of time and resources.
Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right things.
It is the courage to do things differently.
Effectiveness might mean taking a risk or being inefficient at that moment.
Balancing the two can radically improve the ability to get stuff done and to find creative solutions.
Focusing solely on efficiency can oddly be inefficient by wasting time and resources on tasks that don’t move the needle.
Effectiveness seeds innovation and creativity. An exploration of new ideas and ways of doing things. A lot more fun.
Set clear objectives that align with the organization’s goals. Objectives may change and that is ok but start somewhere.
Prioritize tasks that have the biggest impact on the objectives. Leads to better time management.
Be open to feedback and use it to identify areas for improvement. Do the right thing mindset versus wanting to be right.
Collaborate with people who have different skills and knowledge.
Take breaks to give your brain a chance to rest and recharge. We don't take enough vacations. Come back to your work with renewed energy and focus.
A focus on effectiveness fosters a mindset for innovation, creativity, and to create sustainable solutions.
